‘90 Day Fiancé’ Star Sentenced to 18 Years for Domestic Assault Charges
Former Reality TV star Geoffrey Paschel has been sentenced to 18 years behind bars after he was convicted in a two-day trial last year of kidnapping and assaulting his ex-fiancé, Kristen Wilson.
Paschel was one of the cast members of the television network TLC’s hit show, 90 Day Fiancé. The show centers around Americans who are in relationships with individuals abroad. The show follows cast members as they navigate their relationship through a three-month period in which the couples decide to get married or go their separate ways. On Paschel’s season, producers followed him as he navigated a long-distance romance with his Russian girlfriend, Varya Malina. According to reports, Malina was present for Paschel’s sentencing.
The lengthy sentence stems from a June 2019 incident in which Tennessee's Knox County Sheriff's Office answered a call of a domestic disturbance. According to a statement from the Knox County DA, "Paschel grabbed the victim by the neck and slammed her head against the wall several times. She was also thrown to the ground and dragged. Paschel took the victim's cell phone and did not allow her to leave the residence."
Wilson was able to eventually call the police after she escaped the residence while Paschel was sleeping. When police arrived, they found Wilson suffering from multiple bruises with one large bruise on her forehead and several others on her arms and back. Wilson also suffered from abrasions on her lip and other parts of her body as well. She was later diagnosed with a concussion due to the assault.
During his trial, Paschel testified that bruises found on his ex-fiancé were self-inflicted. Despite his defense, Paschel was found guilty of domestic assault, aggravated kidnapping, and interference with emergency calls.
The latest convictions against this former reality TV star are not the first he has faced. Paschel, who was part of the TV show's fourth season, came under scrutiny after fans voiced their outrage over the allegations of domestic abuse. It was quickly revealed that Paschel had a criminal history that included convictions of possession of a controlled substance with the intent to sell, along with two federal drug trafficking charges.
After the allegations of his assault charges surfaced, TLC distanced themselves from the TV personality, asking him not to join in on the taping of the season finale’s “tell-all” episode.
At the time the domestic abuse allegation surfaced, Paschel addressed them In a brief Instagram post where he explained, "I have been repeatedly asked why I would EVER want to be on a show (the best show FYI) where my life would be put in front of everyone to pick apart—especially with my checkered past. Well, guys, it is MY past. It is MY life. It is MY choice. If we were all the same: thought the same, looked the same, or acted the same, how lame would that be?"
