It’s the celebrity divorce that keeps on evolving. Months after Brad Pitt sued Angelina Jolie over the French winery they co-owned while happily married, Jolie is suing him for $250 million.

The legally-separated global superstars have been duking it out in divorce court since 2016, arguing vehemently over the custody of their six children and divvying up their numerous assets.

One of the most contentious divorce battles for this couple is their ongoing war over who gets to control their renowned French winery, Chateau Miraval.

As reported in February 2022 in lawcommentary.com, Pitt sued Jolie for allegedly selling her stake in the French winery in an unauthorized deal. In Pitt’s civil lawsuit, he claimed that in spite of an agreement the couple had about selling shares in the company, Jolie agreed to a deal with competitor Tenute del Mondo, owned by Stoli.

At the time of his lawsuit against Jolie, Pitt claimed Jolie was trying to take over his successful rosé company, Miraval, of which he originally owned 80 percent and Jolie owned 20 percent. Currently, Pitt owns 50 percent, and Jolie sold her shares to Tenute del Mondo.

Court documents from the Pitt lawsuit against Jolie state, “She sold her interest with the knowledge and intention that Shefler and his affiliates would seek to control the business to which Pitt had devoted himself and to undermine Pitt’s investment in Miraval.”

As of 2022, the winery brings in revenue in excess of $50 million per year.

Now, in a tit-for-tat lawsuit, Jolie is fighting back, claiming that Pitt is attempting to “seize control” over their winery, and creating difficult conditions so “Jolie would never see a dime” of the company’s profits.

In court documents, Jolie alleges Pitt is pressuring her with a “hush-clause” to stop her from speaking publicly about the reasons for the divorce. The suit also claims Pitt funded numerous “vanity projects” using the winery’s money.

Court documents state, “In retaliation for the divorce and custody proceedings, Pitt embarked on a multi-faceted, years-long campaign to seize control of Chateau Miraval and appropriate the company’s assets for his benefit and that of his own companies and friends. Appointing himself the rightful owner of Chateau Miraval, his twin objectives were to usurp the value of Jolie’s company, Nouvel, and to obtain sole ownership of Chateau Miraval.”

The former couple is still fighting over custody of their children, with Pitt determined to have a 50/50 split. Jolie, however, is arguing in court for her ex-husband to lose that custody arrangement for reasons including her claims of domestic abuse by Pitt.

Damaging leaks to the press recently emerged from unknown sources about an FBI investigation against Pitt, and Jolie has alleged she was a victim by Pitt of domestic violence. The FBI report did not lead to any charges filed against Pitt regarding an infamous plane incident on a flight from France to California, where he allegedly pushed Jolie and drunkenly screamed at some of the children during a flight.

Pitt was cleared of all charges filed against him by the Los Angeles Department of Children and Family Services.

“In response to allegations made following a flight within the special aircraft jurisdiction of the United States which landed in Los Angeles carrying Mr. Brad Pitt and his children, the FBI has conducted a review of the circumstances and will not pursue further investigation,” the FBI said in a statement. “No charges have been filed in this matter.”

However, an anonymous plaintiff sued the FBI to find out why Pitt was never charged with domestic abuse. Those court documents were sealed until August, and the plaintiff turned out to be none other than Jolie.

Jolie filed the FBI lawsuit in 2021 against the Department of Justice (DOJ) under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). In the suit, she said she could “prove” allegations against Pitt for acts of domestic violence. In the lawsuit, Jolie reportedly said she would testify, and some of her minor children would participate.

If Pitt were to be found guilty of domestic violence, he would have a difficult time in court obtaining the “50/50 physical and legal custody” he seeks.

As per the winery, the ongoing war between the once-happy power couple continues, with no end in sight.
