CNN announced earlier this week that they would indefinitely suspend one of their top news anchors, Chris Cuomo, after allegations that he use his journalistic connections to help prepare his brother, former New York governor Andrew Cuomo, against recent sexual harassment allegations.

The news of the suspension comes after documents released earlier this week by New York's attorney general allege that Cuomo helped his brother, former governor Andrew Cuomo, in a much more intimate capacity than Chris Cuomo originally revealed to the public. Andrew Cuomo is currently fighting back allegations that he sexually harassed at least 11 women during his time in office.

When the news first broke about Andrew Cuomo’s sexual harassment allegations, Chris Cuomo, the host of CNN's nightly news program Cuomo Prime Time, shared with his viewers that he would not be covering the allegations against his brother because he did not have the ability to be objective when it came to his family. “Obviously, I’m aware of what’s going on with my brother. Obviously, I cannot cover it because he is my brother. Now, of course, CNN has to cover it. They have covered it extensively and they will continue to do so.”

Cuomo was highly criticized for taking on the role of an apparent advisor to his brother, a role that many claimed was not justified because of his profession as a journalist. In May, Cuomo defended his involvement with his brother’s scandal to viewers. He explained, "I never misled anyone about the information I was delivering or not delivering on this program. I never attacked nor encouraged anyone to attack any woman who came forward. I never made calls to the press about my brother’s situation. I never influenced or attempted to control CNN’s coverage of my family," Cuomo explained in August, the same month his brother resigned as governor. "And as you know, back in May when I was told to no longer communicate with my brother’s aides in any group meetings, I acknowledged it was a mistake, I apologized to my colleagues, I stopped, and I meant it." Chris Cuomo added.

After the documents were released, Cuomo made no mention of them on his Monday night show. The documents, which consisted of text messages and interview transcripts with investigators related to Cuomo’s involvement in advising his brother, paints a more intimate picture than Chris Cuomo originally led on, however.

In one of the texts, a close colleague of Cuomo’s, Melissa DeRosa, tells the journalist, “Rumour going around from politico 1-2 more ppl coming out tomorrow. Can u check your sources .” Chris Cuomo replied, “on it.”

In another text, Cuomo asks DeRosa to “please let me help” in terms of helping to prep his brother with his initial public response to the allegations.

After the documents were revealed, CNN shared that they revealed Chris Cuomo was more involved than he had initially let on with helping his brother’s defense against the allegations. In response to the released documents, CNN shared a statement that explained the documents “deserve a thorough review and consideration.” Their statement adds, “We will be having conversations and seeking additional clarity about their significance as they relate to CNN over the next several days.”

Following his indefinite suspension, Chris Cuomo broke his silence about the network’s decision Wednesday on his SiriusXM Satellite Radio Show, Let’s Get After It. "Quick note about the obvious — I've been suspended from CNN," Cuomo says. “You know this already. It hurts to even say it. It's embarrassing, but I understand it. And I understand why some people feel the way they do," Cuomo said.
