Christina Fulton, 57, who dated actor Nicolas Cage from 1988 to 1991, filed a lawsuit against him and their son Weston Cage, 34, alleging she was severely assaulted by her son. Ms. Fulton also sued Nicolas Cage for “enabling” the alleged violent attack. The lawsuit was filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court.
In court documents, Ms. Fulton said her son caused "life-threatening injuries" at the time of the alleged attack, which the plaintiff claims occurred during a fight in 2024.
At the time of the alleged beating, Weston Cage was arrested, charged with assault with a deadly weapon, and released on bond. In her lawsuit, Ms. Fulton said, "Weston has a long history of mental and psychological disorder and a history of committing violent assault and battery and harming numerous individuals." The complaint further alleges, "Nicolas has been aware of Weston's history and nevertheless failed to take action to prevent Weston from committing acts of violence and harming others."
In the lawsuit, Ms. Fulton compares her son Weston Cage to a "300-pound professional fighter” and accuses him of attacking her for no reason. In the civil suit, Weston Cage is being sued for the intentional torts of assault and battery, while his father is being sued for negligence.
The mother alleges Nicolas Cage did not ensure their son received "necessary psychiatric" help and enabled his "reckless" behavior.
In legal documents, Ms. Fulton says she visited her grown son on April 28, 2024, after she allegedly received “urgent messages” from his friends. She claims that when she arrived outside his home, her son attacked her in a “manic rage” in the car park, then in the elevator, and lastly inside his home. In court documents, Ms. Fulton alleges that due to the attack by her son, she experienced a concussion, neck and throat injuries, numerous cuts, dental trauma, abdominal injuries and trauma, and PTSD.
In the lawsuit against Nicolas Cage, the plaintiff claims that because he was fully aware of their son’s "long history of mental and psychological disorder," plus his numerous incidences of "violent assault and battery.” he enabled their son’s violent actions against her. Her suit claims Mr. Cage “enabled” this violent behavior by offering his son financial support.
Ms. Fulton alleges in the complaint that Nicolas Cage purchased an apartment for their son that is next door to his own home, and claims he bailed their son out of jail numerous times and allegedly drank alcohol with him even though he “knew” about his supposed struggles with substance abuse.
In a response aired on BBC, Brian Wolf, Nicolas Cage’s attorney, called the suit “absurd.”
"Weston Coppola is a 34-year-old man," Mr. Wolf said. "Mr. Cage does not control Weston's behavior in any manner and is not responsible for Weston's alleged assault of his mother."
Weston Cage's attorney said that his client and Ms. Fulton have a history of past litigation against members of their family.
"It appears to be nothing short of a money grab and call for attention," said attorney Michael Goldstein.
He did agree, however, that Ms. Fulton did tell the LAPD that her son was having a mental crisis at the time of the alleged assault, which was correct.
Prior to Ms. Fulton’s allegations regarding the 2024 incident, Weston Cage was arrested in 2011 on felony domestic violence charges brought by his then-wife, Nikki Williams. He was stopped by police for alleged drunken driving in 2017, pleaded no contest, and was ordered into a recovery program plus community service at the time.
Ms. Fulton seeks unspecified damages for the "catastrophic physical, emotional, and economic harm she has endured due to an unprovoked attack by their son, Weston,” as per the lawsuit.
