Hip hop mogul and business leader Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, has been named in a refiled lawsuit that directly connects him to bombshell allegations made earlier this year against music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs. This lawsuit accuses Carter of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl in 2000.

The lawsuit was initially filed in the Southern District of New York this past October. The October complaint originally named Combs as a defendant, but after a refiling this past Sunday, Carter’s name was added to the suit alongside specific details that paint Carter in a damaging light.

The plaintiff is only identified as “Jane Doe” in the lawsuit, and she paints a vivid image of what happened between her and the A-list celebrities over 24 years ago.

Carter was quick to respond to the allegations in a lengthy statement he released Sunday evening. He allegedly called the lawsuit “idiotic,” adding, "These allegations are so heinous in nature that I implore you to file a criminal complaint, not a civil one!! Whomever would commit such a crime against a minor should be locked away, would you not agree?" Carter defends, "These alleged victims would deserve real justice if that were the case."

His lengthy statement went on, “You have made a terrible error in judgment thinking that all ‘celebrities’ are the same. I’m not from your world. I’m a young man who made it out of the project of Brooklyn. We don’t play these types of games. We have very strict codes and honor. We protect children.”

Combs’ attorneys were also quick to respond as well, sharing, "As his legal team has said before, Mr. Combs has full confidence in the facts and the integrity of the judicial process. In court, the truth will prevail: that Mr. Combs never sexually assaulted or trafficked anyone—man or woman, adult or minor.”

This latest lawsuit is among several that have been filed by Texas-based attorney Tony Buzbee on behalf of victims who have been impacted by Combs’ alleged criminal charges. This is the first lawsuit in which a high-profile celebrity like Carter has also been named.

In filing the lawsuit, Buzbee wrote in the complaint, "Carter received a letter from Plaintiff’s counsel requesting a mediation to resolve this matter." In response, however, Carter has filed his own lawsuit against Buzbee, citing that he was being harassed through Buzbee's intimidating tactics.

In the lawsuit, the plaintiff says that she was raped at a house party that took place after the MTV Video Music Awards which were hosted in New York. The woman says she was dropped off at Radio City Music Hall, where she was able to gain access to an afterparty after approaching different limousine drivers at the venue.

One driver, who worked for Combs, allegedly told the girl that she “fit what Diddy was looking for.” The driver agreed to take her to an afterparty once the VMAs were over, according to documents filed with the court.

When Doe arrived at the party, she says that she was given a drink that made her feel “woozy.” Shortly afterward, the complaint alleges, she went into a room where Combs and Carter allegedly later entered and announced that she was “Ready to Party!” That’s when she says she was forcibly unclothed by Carter, who also held her down, while Combs raped her as Carter and another woman looked on. According to the complaint, Carter raped the girl as well while Combs and the woman watched.

The plaintiff says that Combs tried to get her to perform oral sex on him, but that he stopped after she hit him in the neck.

Combs is currently being held in custody in New York on criminal charges related to federal sex trafficking. He is detained while awaiting trial as his attempts at bail have failed.

Under the New York City Victims of Gender-Motivated Violence Protection Act, rape as described in the lawsuit does not have a statute of limitations, provided plaintiffs file their civil lawsuits by March 1, 2025, allowing this Jane Doe to bring forward her lawsuit even 24 years after she alleges it happened. Doe’s lawsuit is seeking unspecified compensatory and punitive damages.
