Actor and comedian Jim Belushi filed for divorce from his wife of 23 years in Los Angeles County Superior Court last week. In the divorce filings, Belushi cites “irreconcilable differences.”
Belushi, 67, has made countless fans laugh through his time on Saturday Night Live and his long-running sitcom, “According to Jim.” His wife Jennifer Sloan also worked in Hollywood as a casting assistant and an assistant voice director. Much like his older brother, John Belushi, Belushi found success during his time on Saturday Night Live.
The couple got married in May of 1998 and have since welcomed two children, daughter Jamison Bess Belushi, 22, and son Jared James Belushi 19.
This divorce filing is the second after the couple attempted to call it quits in 2018. Their first divorce filings took place on the 36th anniversary of Belushi's brother's death with the couple citing "irreconcilable differences." After Sloan filed the divorce papers, Belushi requested the court to dismiss the case as the pair had decided to work things out. The judge approved the dismissal just as the couple approached their 21st wedding anniversary. Over the past three years, Belushi has hinted at possible troubles in his marriage through interviews, including one done with The Hollywood Reporter.
While the pair’s relationship has been on the rocks, the distance between them has not helped their situation either. Belushi shared with The Hollywood Reporter in a recent interview that his wife spends most of her time running her children's boutique in Los Angeles while he spends his time in Oregon operating his marijuana farm which he started in 2015.
When asked about his life in Los Angeles, Belushi shared with The Hollywood Reporter, "I’ve done it.” He adds “I raised my kids there, went to all the premieres. I went to award shows. I’ve been to Toscana 1,600 times. I have a grateful feeling for the life I had there – I’m just moving on to kind of a new reinvention."
Following the finality of this divorce, it will be Belushi’s third divorce. Belushi was married to Sandy Davenport from 1980 to 1988. During their time together, the couple welcomed their only son Robert Belushi, 40. In 1990, Belushi married Marjorie Bransfield. That marriage lasted two years.
According to court documents, as reported by People Magazine, the couple had both a prenup and postnup in place.
