The Judd Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on safeguarding the artistic legacy of Donald Judd, an influential figure in minimalist art, has filed a lawsuit against reality TV star and entrepreneur Kim Kardashian on Wednesday. The foundation alleges that Kardashian, along with Los Angeles-based interior design firm Clements Design Inc., falsely showcased counterfeit replicas of Judd's furniture as authentic items in a 2022 YouTube video. This video, part of a tour showcasing Kardashian's skincare company SKKN by Kim's offices, allegedly featured furniture made by Clements Design in the style of Donald Judd's renowned minimalist designs.

According to the complaint, Kardashian's enthusiastic endorsement of the furniture during the video misled viewers into believing that the pieces were authentic Donald Judd creations. This false association, the foundation argues, could have led consumers to believe that Kardashian and her company were officially affiliated with or endorsed by Donald Judd and the Judd brand. Despite attempts to resolve the issue outside of court, including requests to revise the video and release a statement acknowledging the inauthenticity of the pieces, both Kardashian and Clements Design refused.

The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages for false advertising, unfair competition, trademark and copyright infringement, and false endorsement. The foundation's legal action demonstrates its commitment to protecting the integrity of Donald Judd's work and ensuring that his legacy is not exploited for commercial gain. Furthermore, it emphasizes the importance of accurately representing artistic creations and respecting the rights of artists and their estates.
