According to an official press release from the Court Technology Services (CTS) Division, the Superior Court of Los Angeles County experienced a ransomware attack on Friday, July 19, 2024, which disrupted its internal systems.

The attack was identified in the early hours of Friday morning, prompting the Court to disable its network systems immediately to prevent further damage. This precautionary measure will remain in effect through the weekend as the Court works to address the security breach.

The Court is collaborating with the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (CALOES) and various local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to investigate the ransomware attack and mitigate its impacts. Preliminary investigations suggest no evidence of compromised data related to court users.

In recent years, the Los Angeles Superior Court has made substantial investments in enhancing its cybersecurity infrastructure. These efforts have included modernizing cybersecurity systems and strategically staffing the Cybersecurity Division within CTS. This proactive approach enabled the Court to detect and respond to the ransomware intrusion quickly.

Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, the Court has stated that it will not provide further comments until more information is available for public release. Updates regarding affected court operations and services will be communicated as they become available.

Court officials have encouraged the public to stay informed by following the Los Angeles Superior Court on social media platforms, including ‘X’ (@LASuperiorCourt) and Instagram (@LASuperiorCourt).

The Los Angeles Superior Court's swift response highlights the importance of robust cybersecurity measures in protecting sensitive information and maintaining operational integrity.
