Former Pennsylvania nurse Heather Pressdee has been sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to three counts of murder and 19 counts of attempted murder charges. The sentencing, handed down on Thursday in Butler, Pennsylvania, marks the conclusion of a legal battle that began with Pressdee's arrest in May 2023.

As reported by the Associated Press, Pressdee, 41, faced charges related to the deaths of at least 17 patients across multiple health facilities in Pennsylvania between 2020 and 2023. The victims, aged between 43 and 104, fell prey to “lethal or potentially lethal doses of insulin” administered by Pressdee, who was employed as a registered nurse at the time.

The guilty plea followed an extensive investigation that revealed a disturbing pattern of misconduct by Pressdee, characterized by a callous disregard for her patients' well-being and revealed a troubling history of abusive behavior towards patients and staff. Pressdee's employment history was characterized by frequent disciplinary actions and terminations from numerous healthcare facilities. Prosecutors also presented evidence of Pressdee's alarming texts to her mother, expressing frustration with patients and coworkers followed by remarks about potentially harming them.

Initially accused of killing two nursing home patients and injuring a third, Pressdee's charges were later revised after further investigation. Ultimately, she pleaded guilty to three counts of first-degree murder and 19 counts of attempted murder.

During the sentencing hearing, victims' families confronted Pressdee, condemning her actions as an abuse of trust and an attempt to “play God.” Pressdee remained stoic, offering only terse responses, including a simple admission of guilt.

Despite facing the possibility of capital punishment, Pressdee opted for a plea deal that resulted in three consecutive life sentences and additional consecutive terms totaling 380-760 years in prison.
