Actor Cuba Gooding, Jr. pled guilty in 2022 to one charge of forcible touching in 2018. However, after pleading guilty, he was allowed to withdraw his plea, and then plead guilty to a lesser harassment charge instead, after proving he participated in behavior and alcohol modification after his 2019 arrest.

Over the years, the actor has been accused of unwanted kissing and/or groping by many women.

But a new complaint, brought by a woman who claimed the actor raped her in 2013, will now not be heard in court. With mere days left before the beginning of the trial that included an allegation of rape by an anonymous woman, “Jane Doe,” the actor settled.

The timing of the settlement occurred in the early morning hours on June 4, when the jury selection was due to occur at 10 AM. Judge Paul A. Crotty said the parties had come to an agreement.

This new settlement came on the heels of Judge Crotty’s decision last week to allow the plaintiff’s real name, instead of her anonymous Jane Doe, to be used in court. Cuba Gooding, Jr.’s attorneys had successfully filed a motion to have the Jane Doe anonymous acronym dropped.

The Judge said he would allow the real plaintiff’s name to be used in court since “the calculation has now changed because there is more substantial prejudice to the defendant.”

However, also at the last moment, because the case against Cuba Gooding Jr. was settled, the plaintiff’s real name was not revealed to the public.

The charges of rape were filed three years ago by Jane Doe, who claimed that Cuba Gooding, Jr. was enjoying drinks with her in New York City, in 2013, at a hotel. In her court documents, Jane Doe said the actor raped her.

Court documents allege Jane Doe met the actor at the hotel restaurant and bar in 2013 when he walked up to her in Greenwich Village and then invited her to join him for drinks at the nearby Mercer Hotel.

In the suit, the plaintiff claimed Cuba Gooding, Jr. told her he wanted to change his clothing, took her to his room, put on some music, and then started to take his clothes off.

Jane Doe said she did not want to stay in the hotel room when the actor was taking his clothes off in front of her, so she walked toward the door to leave. However, she alleged, the actor blocked her physically, then allegedly pushed her down onto the bed, allegedly ignored all of her saying “no” and raped her, as she continually tried to get off the bed

After Jane Doe’s allegations and lawsuit were made public, three more women spoke up and said they would testify against the actor. All three women alleged that Cuba Gooding, Jr. abused them in years between 2009 - 2019.

The actor strongly denied all charges.

However, with the settlement, the witnesses and Jane Doe never testified.

In a prior case in the State Supreme Court in Manhattan, Plaintiff Natasha Ashworth alleged Cuba Gooding, Jr. of assault, battery and intention to inflict emotional distress. In that case, the judge ordered the actor to pay compensatory damages to Ms. Ashworth of $80,000.
