President Donald Trump, backed by 17 US states, sought to intervene in the Texas lawsuit seeking the overturning of the US Presidential election by asking the US Supreme Court to throw out millions of voting results in four key states on Tuesday.

The president is asking to intervene in the US Supreme Court case, requesting the justices allow him to essentially become a plaintiff in the lawsuit filed by Texas against Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. It is not yet clear whether this invalidation of votes, if successful, would also include the removal of all Republican votes as well.

Trump’s request to be a plaintiff in this case would be considered historic, as he would be the first sitting president to ask the Supreme Court to override millions of legally cast votes in four battle states in order to overturn the legally held election. He would also be the first president in history to rigorously insist he lost the race due to voter fraud, even in the face of losing every single lawsuit and exhaustive recounts of ballots in key states.

President-elect Joe Biden handily won the November 3 election with 306 electoral votes compared to Trump’s 232, but that has not stopped the president from bringing over fifty-five lawsuits, unsuccessfully, in numerous states.

In the process, not one state has found even one shred of evidence of fraud in the presidential election.

But Trump has been hyper-focused solely on suing battle states, despite the dearth of evidence of wrongdoing.

Speaking directly to the public on Twitter where he has 88 million followers, the president has not yet commented about the record-breaking deaths and infection rates of the novel coronavirus, or the overwhelming capacity issues hospitals around the US are enduring.

But since the election, he has had plenty to say about his debunked theories that the election was stolen from him.

As early as election day, thousands of tweets and misinformation circulated on social media, led by the president. Trump said the election was “stolen” with numerous ongoing angry tweets such as “Rigged Election. Show signatures and envelopes. Expose the massive voter fraud in Georgia. What is Secretary of State and @BrianKempGA afraid of. They know what we’ll find!!!”

Now, with election workers in numerous states being threatened and enduring protesters at their private homes, this new request to the US Supreme Court backed by 17 US states is expected to fail. Similar lawsuits have been denied already in numerous courts. The voter count was not nearly close enough for an overturn by the US Supreme Court. No significant fraudulent voting was found in any of the fifty-five plus lawsuits.

As of today, all election officials or representatives in every single state that was sued by Trump has reported no evidence of voter fraud or other irregularities had occurred.

Yet the battle continues, not only in Trump’s mind but also in the seventy million-plus voters who adore him. Democracy is messy, but all eyes are watching the US Supreme Court as they consider this latest, unprecedented request from a sitting president.
